From School Garden to Lunch Menu

Maplewood students in the North Kansas City school district recently enjoyed a sweet treat during lunch. Students were invited to participate in a “Sweet Potato Taste Test” using sweet potatoes grown in their very own school garden!

NKC Schools Food Nutritionist, Tiffany Svorinic, prepared 2 recipes – Cinnamon Glazed Sweet Potatoes (sweet) and Italian Baked Sweet Potatoes (savory) for the students to sample. Students then voted for which recipe they liked best.

Over 230 votes were cast and it was very close – 110 votes for the “sweet” recipe and 114 votes for the “savory” recipe.  From those results, Savory Sweet Potatoes has been added to the December 12th lunch menu!
