Increase in LINC Chess participation continues into summer
Students are playing chess in LINC summer schools and summer camps across Kansas City.
Students in Kansas City Public Schools play chess during the LINC Summer School program offered at 17 elementary schools. Average daily attendance in LINC Summer School is 2,900 students.
In addition to chess in summer school, LINC will offer Chess Camp and Chess University July 27-July 31 at Woodland Early Learning Community School in K.C.P.S.
LINC Chess Camp gives students the opportunity to practice their chess skills and learn new strategies from certified chess instructors. So far, 19 students have registered.

LINC Chess University is a certification program for adults to become chess instructors.
Chess program participation grew during the 2014-2015 school year, with a total of 778 players competing in LINC chess tournaments -- an increase of 355 players over the 2013-2014 school year. The increase reflects more frequent participation in tournaments by individual students.
LINC Chess is currently offered at 31 schools. The number will grow to 33 when Sycamore Hills Elementary and William Southern Elementary in the Independence School District are added during the 2015-2016 school year.
Since its beginning in 1999, LINC Chess has worked to enhance students' academic performance, increase their focus, and sharpen their critical thinking skills.
