Crime Prevention Month begins Oct. 1

Kansas City United Against Crime will kick off Crime Prevention Month with a special event on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, 4-7 p.m., at Swope Park Pavilion.

The Crime Prevention Month Kick-Off will feature free  food and entertainment, presentations from Kansas City Mayor Sly James and Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters-Baker, crime prevention resources, and Kansas City Police Department vehicles and helicopter on display.

The Kansas City United Against Crime initiative works to prevent crime by strengthening relationships between local law enforcement and residents. Residents who are educated in crime prevention strategies can help reduce crime by reporting criminal activity to law enforcement.

Free family activities will be available for the month of October during Crime Prevention Month. Events include crime prevention presentations and fun activities at various Kansas City Public Library branches. To learn more visit the Kansas City United Against Crime Facebook page.
