Free food and safety information at Bike Rodeo July 9

Children equipped in bicycle repair and maintenance will be in attendance at the free Bike Rodeo July 9. Located in Washington Wheatley Neighborhood at Crispus Attucks Elementary School.

From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. , the Bike Rodeo is will teach bicycle safety to fifth and sixth graders who participated in the Bicycle Lesson and Safety Training (BLAST) program and Earn a Bike program. This summer, 27 children have completed the Bicycle Lesson and Safety Training (BLAST) and five have participated the Free Wheels for Kids “Earn a Bike” program during LINC’s Caring Communities summer school classes.

Made possible by the Toys"R"Us and Injury Free Coalition for Kids, the Bike Rodeo will be giving away bicycle helmets, reflective bicycle tape and reflective bracelets. A safety clinic will be included featuring bicycle safety inspections, optional quick tune-ups, rules of the road lectures and free food.

The Bike Rodeo is a fun opportunity for children to learn bicycle safety. According to the Center for Disease Control, more than 700 people die as a result of bicycle-related injuries each year.

The Bike Rodeo is in partnership with Free Wheels for Kids, Bike/WalkKC, Crispus Attucks Elementary School, Local Investment Commission (LINC), and the Washington Wheatley Neighborhood Association.
